This striking Greek Revival style church was designed by Jesuit priest Anthony Ravalli and built by Coeur d’Alene Indians in 1850-1853. The Mission of the Sacred Heart to the Coeur d’Alene was a thriving agricultural village, mission and way station for travelers across the Mullan Road for more than a quarter century. It is the oldest building in Idaho.

    Does anyone know why the Crowe's didn't keep the place? They owned it for Frances's last THIRTY YEARS and when she died they sold it (???) just 2 years after her death? That seems strange to me. Or did the gov't steal it from them?

    I grew up in Tamarack, l miss the sound of the mill the sound of chip cars being picked up and dropped off.We drove cattle from Tamarack down the highway to the stockyard in New Meadows to be shipped down to Weiser . We also had 4 H meetings at the stockyards. Thanks for preserving a little part of my connection to home!!

    My play ground way back in the 1940s my best friends parents were caretakers then.So remember all the great memories from the old mission and the caretakers home.spent many a weekend playing there.
